I have just watched the 1987 film, No Way Out and I needed more Kevin Costner. I love Xfinity because I could just speak into my remote and say: Kevin Costner. It brought all of the film with him in them and found one I had not seen. Since we subscribe to like every movie channel, there was quite a bit to choose from for him.
Revenge is suspense thriller about retired military pilot, Jay Cochran (Costner), who goes to Mexico and friends a powerful Mexican mafia man. He also falls for his new friend’s trophy wife, Miryea (Madeleine Stowe). The two have a torrid love affair but get caught. Tibey, Miryea’s husband, finds out and sends his goons to hunt them down. He leaves Jay for dead in Mexico somewhere and takes his wife to another city where she is left to be a whore, since she was one for having an affair. Nothing is gonna stop Jay from finding his love and getting her back.
If I was Costner in 1990, I would fall for the trophy wife too. I never realized how hot Madeleine Stowe was when she was younger. She played a Latina and oddly, it worked. I believed it.
The movie had good flow and suspense, but at the same time it was sad. I love the romance connection in this film. I really connected with them as a couple on screen. I could literally watch 100 more movies with these two actors together.
The film is based on a novella written by Jim Harrison, which was published in Esquire magazine. The novella was published along with two others. “The Man Who Gave Up His Name” and “Legends of the Fall”. Legends of The Fall went on to also become a film under the same name. Other fun facts include: Columbia released Revenge on VHS in August 1990. But in 2007, the DVD and Blu-Ray releases are Tony Scott’s director’s cut which is shorter by 20 minutes with a running time 104 minutes and includes expanded scenes as well as some deletions and additional scoring. I am assuming I watched the 2007 edition on demand.
